Saddened by the Loss of Hugh Segal, a Friend, Mentor and Outstanding Canadian

It is with great sadness that I was advised of the passing of Hugh Segal. Hugh was a great friend, mentor, and outstanding Canadian. His loss will be greatly felt by many individuals whose lives he touched.

As but one memory, one of his favourite haunts was breakfast at the Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto during my association with him. It was during these meetings that he gave me sage and valuable commentary and advice on many mutual issues and initiatives of the day.

Most recently, Hugh was the Principal of Massey College, of which I am a Senior Fellow. On his retirement from the College, I established a commemorative Endowed Fund at the College in his name to financially support disabled individuals to attend the College. Many other Masseyites contributed to this initiative at the time.

This was an original initiative of Hugh and an issue he took great interest in advancing. In recognition of his passing, I have pledged to double my personal contribution to the endowment in his honour. If you would like to join me, please address any contributions, with a note to apply it to The Hugh Segal Fund, to:

My sincere condolences to his wife and friend Donna and to all of his family. His absence is a great loss, but his memory and lifetime contributions will continue to be cherished forever.
