Supporting the Transgender Community at London’s Trans+ Pride 2023

I was pleased to attend London’s Trans+ Pride 2023 rally to support the call for trans freedom and equality in the UK and globally. It was an exhilarating day attended by thousands from the community in London’s Trafalgar Square.

The grassroots protest, which first took place in 2019, aims to “celebrate the memory of trans lives taken and uphold the next generation of trans revolutionaries”. This year’s march made its way up Cockspur Street onto Pall Mall, made a right at Waterloo Place and headed up to Piccadilly Circus before turning left and passing Green Park, before coming to a stop just after Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner. The festival route was extended to allow more to join and express solidarity with Trans people who have been affected by transphobic murders and restrictive laws worldwide.

It was good to hear that attendance this year was double that from the last rally. The support for the community was overwhelming and represents the fight back against growing violence and discrimination. It’s been a difficult year for trans and non-binary people, with transphobic harassment increasing and anti-trans bills introduced worldwide. Proud to have represented Canada to show our support and resilience. .
