I was thrilled to be a keynote speaker at Massey College’s first Pride Night High Table at the University of Toronto. Honoured guests at the High Table included: Wade Maclaughlin, former Premier of Prince Edward Island; Kathleen Wynne, former Premier of Ontario, and her wife Jane Rounthwaite; Scott MacArthur, TSN Sports and Blue Jays Talk host; Gwen Benaway, Governor-General’s Poetry Award winner; Joanne Simons, CEO of Casey House Hospital; Angela Swan of Aird & Berlis LLP; and others. Presiding over the evening was Principal Nathalie Des Rosiers of Massey College.
In my talk, I focused on the important role of education in the progression of human rights, and the concept of Pride as a celebration of the accomplishments and contributions of the LGBTQ community.
