I am honoured and excited to join the Global Board of Directors of Human Rights Watch (HRW). Today’s challenges to human rights require that individuals who treasure them must also defend them and support activists and institutions that believe in and guard them. HRW’s commitment to fact-based and credible investigations of global human rights abuses, bringing justice to victims and holding abusers accountable, must be encouraged. Never is it the time to shy away from ensuring that everyone’s rights and dignity are respected and protected.
I look forward to being part of the HRW global team. I join fellow Canadians Bruce B. Simpson and Donna Slaight, and am thrilled to be working beside the hugely talented Tirana Hassan and her team.
